The Syriac Orthodox Church is one of the most ancient churches in Christendom and claims a presence in Jerusalem dating back to the time of Jesus. Ensconced in the Old City’s Armenian Quarter only steps away from where the four quarters meet, the Syriacs are settled around the Monastery of St. Mark the Evangelist in a warren of small alleys that abuts the Jewish Quarter.

The following is a photo essay of my visit to the Reim Supernova site on the one-year anniversary of the the October 7th massacre. This killing field and site of some of the worst atrocities committed against Jews since the Holocaust, is becoming a national memorial site that will commemorate all those who lost their lives there.

In the run up to our elections in October, I headed out to Umm al Fahm, which was, until recently, Israel’s largest Arab village. The village was decked out for it’s first ever city festival and I was warmly welcomed by the locals who shared their food and their stories.
